Experiencing the Mac and the PC

Using software applications means a learning curve is involved if you have no storehouse of related or similar experience. Focusing on a specific project or need is one way to effectively learn about software--how to use the menus, how to find the functions you need to accomplish, how to locate the Help menu. Having a project in mind also allows you to critically ascertain the limitations of the software, and discover where you need to use your creativity or imagination to get the job done. Being congnizant and considerate of different platforms and operating systems means conceptualizing the user in fashioning your work.

In order to assist other learners in the use and possibilities of computer software and computer systems, I have volunteered my time to be a resource. I have also lent some expertise to friends and associates in developing, designing, and creating web presences. Some of the sites were used, some were refashioned into other forms. In either case, there is much brain-storming and designing involved in order to create the final draft product. So whether we volunteer our time directly, or provide a service indirectly, we should be aware of and partake of the teaching and learning opportunities.
